Art lovers in for textile treat in Isaac
Quilters and art lovers alike are in for a textile treat this May.
Mayor Anne Baker said Isaac is welcoming an international touring exhibition of thirty-two contemporary textile artworks.
“A Matter of Time: exploring the fourth dimension in cloth is coming to the Moranbah Coalface Art Gallery in May and then to the Dysart Library Artspace in June.
“I’m looking forward to viewing this vibrant exhibition. While the artists have expressed their ideas about time in their own unique style, the artworks are presented in a unified format.”
Curator and well-known textile artist Brenda Gael Smith said she was thrilled to present her latest curatorial project to Isaac.
“The notion of time is intriguing and sometimes paradoxical. It is at once rigid and fluid, fleeting and interminable, tangible but elusive, and abundant yet scarce,” she said.
“How the ‘fourth dimension’ of time is observed, manifested and experienced is at the heart of this exhibition.
“Ninety-nine artists responded to the challenge to explore the fourth dimension in cloth and, together, submitted 104 entries.
“The 32 selected works showcase a diverse range of styles, techniques and materials in both abstract and representational form.
“Sub-themes include the seasons, eternity, evolution, ageing, time travel and story telling.
“The participating artists are from across the world including Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and Canada.
“After it leaves the Isaac region, the exhibition is going to Birmingham’s Festival of Quilts in the United Kingdom and then to New Zealand’s National Quilt Symposium.”
The exhibition is generously supported by Brother International Australia. Save the dates – A Matter of Time will be on display in the Moranbah Coalface Art Gallery May 2 to 30 and in Dysart Library Artspace from June 5 to 30.
