UPDATE 19 April 2017: Eton Range detour available for restricted vehicles
A detour from Mackay to Nebo is now available for over size over mass (OSOM) vehicles that are currently restricted from using the Eton Range, on the Peak Downs Highway.
Restricted OSOM vehicles can travel from Mackay to Nebo via the Bruce Highway, Bowen Developmental Road, Collinsville Elphinstone Road and Suttor Developmental Road.
This detour is suitable for:
- vehicles up to 10m wide
- over mass vehicles that travel under single trip permits
Vehicles that require single trip special assessment permits will be considered on a case by case basis.
The Eton Range remains under single lane operation with width and mass restrictions for OSOM vehicles, due to damage caused by Cyclone Debbie. These conditions are listed in the previous update below.
TMR understands the detour adds considerable travel time and apologises for any inconvenience. TMR are working as quickly as possible to repair the damage and reinstate the Eton Range to previous operation.
UPDATE 13 April 2017: Eton Range width and mass restrictions
Due to damage caused by Cyclone Debbie, the Eton Range crossing on the Peak Downs Highway is reduced to single lane operation with width and mass restrictions for over size over mass (OSOM) vehicles.
Below are the restrictions currently applicable to OSOM vehicles, as they appear on the TMR Conditions of Operation Database.
Peak Downs Highway is closed (at Eton Range landslide) to all vehicles that require special assessment permits or that exceed "A Class" timber bridge mass limits.
A landslip on the Eton range has restricted vehicles greater than 4.6m wide from travelling the Peak Downs highway between Listers Road and Hogan Pocket Road. Temporary road safety barriers and antigawk screens will be in place. These barriers will be up to 2400mm high.
The maximum ground contact width is 3.6m. The maximum width above 1200mm is 4.6m. Barriers have been placed to identify the safe travel path through the slip. The barriers at the slip site are 1200mm high.
Vehicle length is limited to 30m.
The Maximum speed of the vehicle through the range crossing shall be 12km/hr. Vehicles are to have 2 escort vehicles ( one front and one rear of the vehicle).
TMR is working as quickly as possible to undertake repair works and reinstate the Eton Range to two-lane operation.
As the repair works progress, restrictions to OSOM will be reviewed. Changes to the restrictions will be updated in the TMR Conditions of Operations Database.
In addition to checking these conditions before each trip, heavy vehicle operators are encouraged to view the database regularly for updates.
For more information please see the TMR excess mass and dimension conditions.
