$4.2 Million to Restore 94 Sections of Isaac Roads
A major government-funded road project will see 65km across 94 sections of road across Isaac being restored in a $4.2 million roll out starting this week.
Isaac Regional Council has awarded the multimillion dollar contract to Epoca Constructions to be delivered through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
The works, to be carried out over a four-month period, will include restoration of unsealed roads, reconstruction of sealed roads and reconstruction of drainage structures.
Seven road teams will be dispatched to their work sites around Clermont, Middlemount, Dysart, Moranbah, St Lawrence and Glenden.
Mayor Anne Baker said restoring roads in Isaac brings a crucial contribution to economic development and growth and bring important social benefits.
“They are of vital importance in order to make the region grow and develop especially following severe weather events,” Mayor Baker said.
“We expect a total of 40 employees to be involved in the delivery of the contracted work and we look forward to the contractors spending local and energising our economy.
“Council has undertaken emergent works to date to ensure safety of motorists up to this date.
“Road infrastructure is among the most important of all our public assets and we will continue our focus on making our road infrastructure more resilient.”
Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said the restoration of these roads was a demonstration of the Palaszczuk Government’s commitment to the Isaac region.
“Roads are the lifeblood of regional communities, and these restoration works will help residents travel with confidence and safety,” Mr Dick said.
“This important investment will help maintain the roads that connect the Isaac region communities during and after major rainfall and flooding.”
Federal Member for Capricornia Michelle Landry said she was proud to be part of a government helping communities get back on their feet after natural disasters.
“The road work done the Isaac Regional Council is to undertake is such important work,” Ms Landry said.
“Our roads are a vital element of our economy, connecting communities, allowing the transport of goods and services across the region and delivering wealth and jobs to all.
“Road works are always an important part of a local government’s schedule and natural disasters can place a massive burden on ratepayers.
“That’s why I’m so happy to help deliver federal investment through the NDRRA for these road works in the Isaac region.”
Mayor Baker said traffic control measures will be imposed on all the sites.
“We encourage motorists to take extra care when driving through roadworks – this is for your safety and the safety of the road workers who are restoring our roads,” Mayor Baker said.
“Council has undertaken a series of emergent works to date to ensure safety of motorists up to this date.
“This program is extremely important to our future and for our mining, cattle, transport and tourism industries.”
The funding, which comes under the NDRRA’s Restoration of Essential Public Assets, is essential to restore the road network from severe weather events.
