Concrete pour a major milestone in $10.59M water project
Building Isaac’s water security is on the front foot with one of the region’s biggest projects crushing a major milestone.
A total of 420 cubic metres of concrete has been poured to create the foundation base of a new treated water reservoir as part of the $10.59 million Moranbah Reservoir and Associated Works project.
Mayor Anne Baker said this concrete pour is the biggest Isaac Regional Council has ever conducted, lasting eight hours.
“This phase of the project is part of the construction of the reservoir flood slab,” Mayor Baker said.
“This new 15ML ground level reservoir will increase the plant’s current one-day water storage capacity to up to three days upon completion scheduled for May 2018.
“We will also see more than 1000 pipes, weighing 340t at 6m in length being trucked to the site this month as part of the construction of new water supply pipelines across the town.
Mayor Baker said the project contractors used many local and regional businesses which in turn has helped drive Isaac’s economy.
Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick said the essential project will increase the storage of safe, clean drinking water and raw water storage.
“It also addresses critical flow and pressure issues that limit the water supply network and firefighting capacity in some parts of the town,” the Minister said.
“This investment in critical regional infrastructure demonstrates Council’s and the state government’s commitment to sustainable regional resource communities.”
Isaac Regional Council has matched the $5.295 million it received through the Queensland Government’s Building our Regions program.
