Isaac ambassador to share uplifting story
Australia’s para-powerlifting team manager at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Bill Nancarrow, has been announced as Isaac region’s Australia Day Ambassador for 2019.
Mayor Anne Baker said Mr Nancarrow would be one of the speakers at the Isaac Region Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony in Moranbah on Friday, 25 January.
Mr Nancarrow will also attend Australia Day awards ceremonies and celebrations in the Isaac coastal communities of Carmila and St Lawrence on Saturday, 26 January.
“We look forward to welcoming Bill to the Isaac region and hearing about his work with the Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association and his career as a coach and team manager for para-powerlifting athletes,” Cr Baker said.
Mr Nancarrow has been involved in coaching and managing para-powerlifters for many years and his sporting highlights have included numerous international championships, the 2008 Beiijing Paralympic Games and the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, where he was the para-powerlifting team manager.
He became involved in powerlifting training in 2000 after a motorbike accident in Townsville.
In 2002 he met the team at Sporting Wheelies and Disabled Association in Brisbane and forged a great relationship with the team, attending several state and national competitions over the next few years forming close friendships.
He has previously been awarded the Col Marsh Volunteer of the Year Award and was named Coach of the Year in 2017.
