Isaac to kick start $5.675 million water recycling project
Construction works are set to begin on the $5.675 million Isaac Regional Water Recycling Program project early in the 2018-19 financial year with expected completion in March 2019.
The flagship project, co-funded by Isaac Regional Council, will provide essential service upgrades to support regional growth and development.
Acting Mayor Kelly Vea Vea said the project would inject $3.6 million into the Isaac economy and contribute to $2.4 million to the gross regional product.
“Over the time of construction, it will create 13 full time positions,” Cr Vea Vea said.
“The program, to be rolled out in Moranbah, Middlemount and Dysart, will provide a potable water offset in these local communities.
“It is a proactive step in reducing the reliance on potable water for irrigation and greening open spaces.”
Department of Local Government Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the program is part of future water cycle management projects planned for the Isaac region.
“This investment in critical regional infrastructure demonstrates Council’s and the State Government’s commitment to sustainable regional resource communities,” Mr Hinchliffe said.
“This project is critical in ensuring Moranbah, Middlemount and Dysart can better manage demand for recycled water use to serve the regional community, mining sector and supporting industries.”
Cr Vea Vea said this funding is extremely helpful for Isaac region and Council thanks the Queensland Government for this support.
Isaac Regional Water Recycling Program is a joint initiative of Isaac Regional Council and the Queensland Government under the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program (LGGSP).
The Queensland Government has contributed $3.405 million to the project with Council’s contributing the remaining $2.270 million.
