Under the provisions of the Local Government Act 2009, nominations are invited from eligible members of the community to fill the position of Division 4 Councillor, Isaac Regional Council.

The position Division 4 Councillor has become vacant following the resignation of Peter Freeleagus, effective 26 February 2019. 

The term of this position will be until the next Quadrennial Elections scheduled on 28 March 2020.

Under the provisions of the Local Government Act 2009, the vacant position must be filled by the Council appointing, by resolution, a person who is qualified to be a councillor.

The following is an indicative timetable of the proposed process:

1 March Nomination period opens
7-12 March Candidate Information Sessions
29 March Nominations Close
1-20 April Assessment period (including
23 April Council Resolution to appoint the successful nominee
30 April Declaration of Office of new Councillor
1-7 May Councillor induction/orientation/training

 

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible to nominate for the vacant postion you must be:

(a) be an Australian citizen aged 18 and over

(b) a resident of the local government area

(c) enrolled on the electoral roll

(d) not disqualified from being a councillor under the provisions of the Local Government Act 2009

Nomination process

Eligible nominees can self-nominate or nominations can be made by electors in support of a nominee.  If you choose the latter, you will need to have three (3) electors from the Isaac Region local government area endorse your nomination.

  • calling Council on 1300 ISAACS (1300 47 22 27);
  • at any Council Administration building.

Your nomination must be on the appropriate form (available for download at the link above) and delivered in person to the Chief Executive Officer, or his nominee, no later than 5pm Friday 29 March 2019. No late nominations will be accepted

The cost

There is no cost to nominate for the vacant postion of Division 4 Councillor.
