Energy at the core of people powered triathlon

It’s time for residents to power up and nominate to swim, cycle and run at the annual Isaac Regional Council Australia Day Triathlon in Moranbah next month.

The highly anticipated sporting event, to be staged at the Greg Cruickshank Aquatic Centre, is a must do on the community’s calendar.

Mayor Anne Baker said all fitness levels, ages and experience are welcome to nominate.

“Many of our local and visiting triathlon competitors look to this event to energise their health and fitness for the year,” Mayor Baker said.

“We welcome entries from people across the Isaac region and beyond to come and join in this great Australia Day tradition.

“Sport is a huge part of our culture and being part of the Australia Day Triathlon as either a competitor or spectator is an active and way to celebrate our great Aussie spirit and nation.

“Events like this help our communities to thrive as we help to energise the world. They require months of planning and preparation and a great deal of people power to bring to life.

“We’re very grateful to Janelle Vitale Swim School, Moranbah Highlanders Swimming Club and Moranbah X-Fit for their assistance in running this event in 2019.”

The adult’s triathlon consists of an 800m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run and for the juniors under 16 years, the course will cover a 400m swim, 5km cycle and 1.5km run.

Individual or team registrations are welcome. Competitors can download the kit online at www.isaac.qld.gov.au/australiadaytriathlon and arrive at the Greg Cruickshank from 6am on Saturday, January 26 to register.

Briefing for the adult event is at 6.25am with a start time of 6.30am while the junior event is set for a 6.45am start and 6.40am briefing.

Following the completion of the triathlon, there’ll be a free barbecue breakfast cooked by Moranbah Freemasons and a presentation of winners. Visit Council’s website www.isaac.qld.gov.au for more information.
