Have your say on showground precinct masterplan

Isaac residents are being encouraged to have a say on the vision for Clermont’s Showgrounds and Saleyards precinct, with a 20-year masterplan for the future development of the site currently on public exhibition for community feedback.

The draft masterplan, funded as part of a $1 million grant from the State Government’s Jobs and Regional Growth Fund, has been developed in consultation with industry stakeholders and key user groups and provides a roadmap for the long-term improvement of the precinct, which is home to Isaac region’s iconic Clermont Show.

Mayor Anne Baker said Clermont Showgrounds and Saleyards were important not only to the Isaac region, but the state of Queensland.

“We’re a region that feeds, powers and builds communities. The Isaac has a $212 million beef industry and maintains the State’s second largest cattle herd. The Clermont Saleyards hosts regular stock sales, but is also a significant cattle trucking centre for the state.

“The annual Clermont Show is one of Queensland’s oldest and most beloved regional events, last year celebrating its 150th anniversary. We’re eager to future-proof our iconic events and continue supporting our great beef industry.”

The draft masterplan plan identifies a range of improvements over the next two decades, including four key milestone projects comprising

  • Acquisition of adjacent land to create a new Showgrounds Primary Entrance and the development of carparking
  • Development of six new spelling yards to improve saleyards efficiencies for the growing market of transit cattle taking advantage of the unfettered triple road train access directly to the saleyards.
  • Replacement of the current ageing Rodeo Ring as part of a new set of holding yards
  • Refurbishment, lining and air-conditioning the southern show pavilion to create a new all-weather multiple-user space.

“I encourage all members of the community, particularly our key agricultural user groups, to have their say on the proposed outcomes on the masterplan,” Mayor Baker said.

On-site community briefing and consultation sessions will be held at the Heritage Building at the Clermont Showgrounds on Saturday 16 February at 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm

The masterplan can be downloaded from the community engagement portal on Council’s website www.isaac.qld.gov.au/community-engagement. Hard copies are also available at council offices.
