Nebo Bush Poet's Smoko 2021

Nebo Bush Poet's Smoko 2021

Whether you're an old hand, dabbling or just love a yarn, everyone is welcome at this year's Bush Poets Smoko at Historic Nebo Museum on Sunday, 10 October.

Now in its 20th year, Council is proud to present this significant community event dedicated to keeping alive the great Australian tradition of bush poetry.

Visitors will be entertained by performances from local poets and guests. Anyone may perform. Some recite poems they have written or give renditions of classics such as “The Man from Snowy River” or “Clancy of the Overflow”; others tell tall tales. Most of the performers are locals who love the spoken word but some are visitors.

Poet Dan Lockyer, a longtime supporter of the event, will entertain the crowd and invite locals and visiting poets including Gladstone based guest poet Margy McArdle to step up to the podium and have their say.

If you'd like to tell a tall tale or perform a poem (your original creation or one written by someone else), please register by speaking with a staff member of your local library, calling 1300 ISAACS or by completing the form via https://speakup.isaac.qld.gov.au/

Entry is free of charge. The gate will open at 9.00am with raffle tickets on sale and a lucky door prize. Smoko will be available for purchase.
The poetry program will run from 9.50am to 11.15am.
Raffles will be drawn at 11.20am.

The main exhibition hall of the museum will be open for viewing between 9.00am and 9.40am and from 11.15am to 11.55am. It will close during the poetry program.

Council is committed to maintaining safe event practices that comply with the Queensland Government framework for COVID Safe events. COVID-19 rules, social distancing and upgraded hygiene measures will be in place at the venue for the safety of visitors and staff.

All attendees must be in good health prior to attending the event (eg. no runny noses, coughs, temperatures). Please refrain from attending if you are unwell, have been in contact with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19, have returned from a declared COVID-19 hotspot in the last 14 days or have been advised to self-isolate.
