Isaac Youth pitch their bold community projects

A new wave of youth-led action is taking shape in the Isaac region with the formation of the Isaac Youth Action Group (YAG). A dynamic team of young leaders who will turn big ideas into real community projects.
The group was formed following May’s inaugural Isaac Youth Summit, which brought together 64 high school students from across Moranbah, Clermont, Dysart and Glenden. Students pitched bold, youth-led community at the Summit, which was launched in partnership with Future Anything and Isaac Regional Council.
From that event, 11 passionate young leaders were selected to form the Isaac Youth Action Group. Meeting fortnightly, the group is now working alongside Council and Future Anything to co-design and bring to life projects that matter to young people.
Division 5 Councillor Alaina Earl said the early stages of the program had already been inspiring. “We’ve seen strong interest from across the region and some fantastic young applicants with big ideas, we’re really looking forward to what these kids will achieve over the next 12 months.”
“The members of the Youth Action Group will be leading, designing and delivering solutions for their own communities. We are thrilled to be working with Isaac Regional Council to support young people to unlock their passion and potential,” said Jarred Turner, Future Anything Program Manager.
The first major milestone for the YAG is just around the corner. On Wednesday 30 July, group members will pitch their project ideas to Isaac Regional Councillors and a panel of community guests during a special Shark Tank-style event at Council chambers.
From August through to November, the group will begin rolling out their chosen projects with support from Council and Future Anything. It marks the beginning of what is hoped to be an annual cycle of youth-led design, delivery and leadership across the region.
Mayor Kelly Vea Vea said the group is already showing what’s possible when young people are trusted to lead.
“The Isaac Youth Action Group is shaping the future with their own hands. They’re not waiting to be asked, they’re stepping up and creating the kind of communities they want to live in.”
