Mistake Creek

Mistake Creek is a small and vibrant rural community about 135km north west of Clermont. Jerimiah Rolfe, who is one of the first people to settle in the area, named Mistake Creek after making a mistake about the location of his station. Rolfe believed that his station was on the Belyando River, but he soon learned that it wasn’t, rather it was off a tributary. As a result of this mistake, he named this tributary Mistake Creek. Mistake Creek State School supports rural education of local grazing families and is a landmark in the community.
