Blue-Green Algae, Lake Elphinstone
Published on 25 August 2025
Isaac Regional Council would like to advise visitors of the presence of blue-green algae at Lake Elphinstone.
Testing has indicated that levels have exceeded the guidelines and as a result there will be a closure of the lake for recreational activities until further notice.
Camping facilities and amenities will remain open.
Growth of blue-green algae is a natural occurrence accelerated by low water levels, nutrient levels, and high heat.
Visitors to Lake Elphinstone are advised to avoid the water.
Activities involving body contact with the water may cause skin and eye irritation and drinking or accidentally swallowing water directly may result in adverse health effects.
Please also keep dogs on a leash to avoid contact with the water's edge.
If you experience any health effects seek medical advice promptly and report it to Council on 1300 ISAACS (1300 472 227).
Visit https://www.waterquality.gov.au/issues/blue-green-algae for more information on blue-green algae.
