Clermont Community Halves Water Use as Conservation Efforts Continue

Isaac Regional Council is thanking Clermont residents for reducing the town’s usual water consumption by approximately 50 per cent.

The reduction is helping Council replenish Clermont’s water supply while works at the water treatment plant continue.

“This is the response we needed from Clermont, and people have stepped up,” Mayor Kelly Vea Vea said.

“Households and businesses have adjusted their water use and given the town’s water supply the chance to recover.”

While water is currently available within the system, supplies will be impacted if consumption returns to normal levels before the treatment plant works are completed.

Residents are asked to use water for essential needs only. This means no watering of lawns, gardens or plants, flushing toilets only when necessary, showering or bathing only when essential, and avoiding non-essential activities such as washing vehicles.

Tanker and bottled water remain available from Clermont Library at 24 Herschel Street for residents who require water. However, the water in the taps is safe to drink. 

“We are heading in the right direction, but we are not there yet,” Mayor Vea Vea said.

“We know this has not been easy. We are asking everyone to stick with us and continue conserving water while these works are completed.”
