Isaac Regional Council Local Disaster Management Group

Under the Disaster Management Act 2003, the Isaac Regional Council Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) proactively plans to reduce the impact on the community from disaster events such as cyclones, storm surges, floods, and bushfires. The LDMG is chaired by the Mayor and is made up of multiple agencies, organisations and industry representatives. The membership of the group includes core and support advisory members chosen for their roles and responsibilities in the region, their specialist knowledge and to distribute awareness and information pertaining to disaster management.

The members include, but are not limited to:

  • Chair (Mayor)

  • Deputy Chair (Deputy Mayor)

  • Local Disaster Coordinator

  • Deputy Local Disaster Coordinator

  • Chief Executive Officer, Isaac Regional Council

  • State Emergency Service

  • Queensland Ambulance Service

  • Queensland Police Service

  • Queensland Fire & Emergency Service

  • Queensland Health (Regional Hospitals)

The LDMG prepares the Local Disaster Management Plan and has a range of other sub-plans for all stages of Disaster Management: Prevention, Preparation, Response and Recovery.

In the event of a disaster, the LDMG will activate the Local Disaster Coordination Centre (LDCC) to assist in operational activities such as the coordination of requests for assistance from the community, acquisition of resources and distribution of public information and warnings. The LDCC is staffed by trained Council employees and Agency Liaison Officers from relevant LDMG member agencies.
