Great Barrier Reef Clean-Up 2025

The Great Barrier Reef Clean-Up 2025 is underway, and we’re excited to support community efforts to protect our coastline.

If you're planning a clean-up event, here’s what you need to know:

Council is waiving waste disposal fees for registered participants and organisers, provided the following conditions are met:

Not accepted:
Asbestos
Green waste

Accepted waste:
General litter such as bottles, cans, food wrappers, anything that can be bagged and carried
Bulkier items like mattresses or tyres, only if participants arrange their own transport

To qualify for free disposal, organisers or participants must:

• Register in advance
•  Provide proof of event registration to Council
• Share the clean-up location and expected waste types to Council
• Supply the vehicle registration number of the person delivering the waste to Council
