Three new affordable housing units have officially opened in Moranbah, strengthening housing choice for essential and key service workers in the Isaac region.

The $2 million project at Bushlark Drive was delivered by the Isaac Affordable Housing Trust (IAHT), with funding support through the Queensland Government’s Resources Community Infrastructure Fund and construction by Bagley Developments.

Mayor of Isaac, Kelly Vea Vea, said the project reflected the importance of collaboration in delivering community outcomes.

“These new homes are about making sure Moranbah has housing for the people we rely on every day, teachers, nurses, childcare staff and small business employees,” Mayor Vea Vea said.

“Housing choice matters. It means families can stay, services can grow, and towns like ours remain liveable. None of this happens without partnership. Council established the Trust, the IAHT has driven the vision, and government funding has made this project a reality. When we work together like this, we deliver real results for our community.”

“The Bushlark units form part of a major program being delivered by the Isaac Affordable Housing Trust, with more than $20 million of affordable housing under way in 2025, including 30 new units and townhouses in Moranbah, with an additional 23 units planned in Clermont in 2026 subject to funding and development approval.”

Chair of the Isaac Affordable Housing Trust, Councillor Melissa Westcott, said the new units were part of a larger program of housing delivery.

“It’s wonderful to celebrate these homes today, and also to look ahead at what’s next for the Trust and our community.” In just over a year, the Trust has delivered or is close to completing nearly 30 new homes in Moranbah. These aren’t just buildings, they’re homes that provide stability and security to the people who care for us when we’re unwell, who teach our kids, who serve in our businesses, and who respond in an emergency.

“We’re proud of what’s been achieved, but the demand across the region is growing. We have plans for projects in Clermont and Dysart that need more partners and companies willing to contribute land or funding and continued government support to keep housing a priority.”

The Isaac Affordable Housing Trust established in 2014 is led by a volunteer board in partnership with Isaac Regional Council. Together with government funding and local industry support, the Trust has become an important mechanism for delivering affordable housing in the region.
